Q: What is the purpose of this group?
A: To get you off your couch and get meeting all these wonderful people in a casual comfortable (no-pressure) environment, providing opportunity for lasting friendships and fun off-the-cuff outings for singles! WHOOT! HOLLAH!
Q: Why is there a fee for events and annual membership dues?
A: There is a low cost nominal membership due and event fees to help to recoup event costs, contribute to surprises, amazing variety in the social calendar, swag bags, provide you with treats, discounted ticket prices, support our local charities, costs to maintain the website and organizers incurred costs when setting up and attending events, WOW! Amazing eh? ;D. This SINGLES ROMANTIC MOVIES & SOCIAL group is run by two (2) organizers, each of whom organizes events independently of each other. Fee collection is at the discretion of each organizer, as is the frequency and types of events planned.
Q: When do I pay the event fee and annual membership dues?
A: You need to pay your annual membership dues upon acceptance to the group (by Jan 31st each calendar year) or by the first event you attend. Event fees are required upon arrival at each event so the organizer can mark you as ‘paid’ and present.
Q: Why do some events require pre-payment?
A: Pre-payment allows us to pay up-front costs to suppliers. If you RSVP for an event which requires pre-payment, please send the payment in right away. If a person on the waiting list sends in a payment while you are in arrears, you may lose your confirmed status, and get placed on the waiting list until your payment arrives.
Q: What form of payment do you accept?
A: We accept PayPal and occasionally cash.
Q: What if I do not have a PayPal account?
A: We recommend opening a Paypal account. It’s fast and easy, and you can link your Paypal account to your bank account or credit card. The website address is www.paypal.com
Q: How can I pay in cash?
A: If cash is being accepted for an event, the organizer will post a date, time and location for payment.
Q: What if I pre-pay, but remain on the waiting list?
A: This is not likely to happen, but you would receive a full refund. However in some cases, refunds are not possible after a certain date.
Q: What happens if I pre-pay for an event and cannot attend?
A: There will be a refund if you cancel before the deadline set by the organizer.
Q: Why did the VIP label get removed from my profile or why is there NS1, NS2, NS3 labels on my user name?
A: You probably failed to attend several events which you RSVP’d ‘yes’ for.
Q: How do I avoid being labelled as a ‘no-show’?
A: Just email the organizer if you are unable to change your RSVP in time. You may do this up to 24 hours after the event.
Q: Why is there no ‘maybe’ option on some events?
A: The ‘maybe’ RSVP actually occupies a spot, and prevents others from getting confirmed. Because we want to ensure the enjoyment of all the members, securing a spot when you are unsure you can attend is just poor rsvp etiquette. Instead please rsvp "no" with your comments about a maybe and then adjust your rsvp to a yes when you are CERTAIN you can make the event.
Q: What kind of events may I expect?
A: It’s up to the individual organizer. Events are usually general in nature.
Q: Can I organize an event?
A: Only organizers can organize, but you can suggest an event and assist in arranging it.
Q: Why do you sometimes have event hosts?
A: Sometimes, when an organizer is unable to host the event, or need some help, a member may be asked to help. Event hosts can do some of the things organizers do, but only during that particular event.
Q: As a VIP member, do I have the right to be an event host?
A: No. You can not decide to be an event host. Organizers may ask you to, but only occasionally if needed.
Q: How can I suggest an event?
A: Use the suggestion link on the site, or send an email to any of the organizers.
Q: Does my religion matter?
A: No. We are not faith-based.
Q: Do you have vegetarian events?
A: Not specifically, but if you let the organizer know you are vegetarian, we will try to accommodate you.
Q: How do you accommodate disabled members?
A: As we do not own any venues, it is up to the individual to check whether or not the venue is suitable for their needs.
Q: Why do you say that this is not a dating group?
A: We want our members to feel as comfortable as if they were with a group of friends they've known and trusted for 20 years! In order to provide this kind of trusting and comfortable environment we need to keep in mind the different levels of comfort and relationship readiness of our members. However if you find yourself connecting with someone individually and meet your special someone here, then great! We love to hear stories of love-connections
We are a Romantic Movie lovers group after all.
Q: Are all your events in Toronto?
A: Mostly. However if there is enough interest we may organize an event out of town!
Q: Can I bring a guest?
A: Guests are allowed at most events, we are all about "the more the merrier" here! For example, just change your RSVP to ‘+1’, and have your guest pay the event fee when they arrive.
Q: Can I email other members?
A: You can send personal messages, but all emails need to be polite, and you must comply if asked to stop by the other member. If we receive a complaint and agree with the complainer, you run the risk of being removed from the group.
Q: Can I promote my business to other members?
A: Yes, but only on a one-to-one basis. You must stop if asked to do so by the member(s) in question. We do not allow spam, so access to the group mailing list is monitored.
Q: What if I do not want to be contacted by other members?
A: Click on ‘Account’ at the top of the home page, then click on ‘Membership and Communication’, and change your email setting to ‘organizers only’. You can change the setting for each group you belong to.
Q: What happens if I do not log in regularly?
A: You may labelled ‘inactive’ by Meetup.com, and could be removed from our member list.
Q: Will we have car-pool events?
A: Occasionally; however some female members do not want to carpool with strangers. We consider safety a #1 priority, so we may consider renting a group vehicle (van) and travel as one group for out-of-town events. For Toronto-based events, just come on your own.
Q: What if I receive unwelcome advances from another member?
A: Send us a copy of the communication. The other member will be asked to cease and desist. If they continue, they will be removed from the group. If the offence happens at one of our meetups, just let an organizer know on the spot, and we will deal with it right away.
